Peptide Research Pen Setup Guide: Cartridges, Needles & Dosing

Getting Started with Your Peptide Research Pen

Whether you've just received your first peptide research pen or you're upgrading to a more precise delivery system, getting the setup right from the start makes all the difference. This guide walks you through everything you need — from loading your cartridge to dialling in your dose.

Always fill up your cartridge BEFORE inserting in to the pen

What You'll Need

  • Your peptide research pen (disposable or reusable)
  • A 3ml sterile pen cartridge
  • Compatible pen needles
  • 75% alcohol swabs for sterilisation

Step 1: Sterilise Before You Start

Before handling any components, wipe down your work surface and clean your hands thoroughly. Use a 75% alcohol swab on the cartridge neck and pen tip area. This step is non-negotiable for maintaining the integrity of your research.

Step 2: Load the Cartridge

Insert your 3ml sterile cartridge into the pen body. Most research pens — including our 80iu and disposable models — use a standard 3ml cartridge format, so compatibility is rarely an issue. Ensure the cartridge is seated firmly before attaching the needle.

Step 3: Attach the Needle

Screw or click your pen needle onto the cartridge end. Prime the pen by dialling a small amount and expelling any air bubbles. You should see a small droplet at the needle tip — this confirms the pen is primed and ready.

Step 4: Set Your Dose

Use the click-dial mechanism to select your required dose. Our 80iu research pens feature a clear, easy-to-read scale with a tactile click for each unit — making precise dosing straightforward even for first-time users.

Step 5: After Use

Remove and safely dispose of the needle after each use. Never recap a used needle. Store your pen and cartridge at the appropriate temperature as specified by your research protocol. Wipe the pen body with an alcohol swab before storing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which cartridges are compatible with Research Pens products?

All our pens are compatible with standard 3ml cartridges. We stock our own 3ml Sterile Pen Cartridges, which are precision-made for reliable dosing and available with fast UK dispatch.

How do I know when the cartridge is empty?

The transparent cartridge body lets you see the remaining volume at a glance. When the plunger reaches the bottom, it's time to replace the cartridge.

Can I reuse cartridges?

No — cartridges should be used once and disposed of properly. Reusing cartridges risks contamination and compromises the accuracy of your research.
